Dalyan is a small village in the province of Mugla on the south western coast of Turkey bordering the Aegean Sea.  The village is situated in the centre of a broad river delta whose natural beauty is completely unspoilt.  It is an area of outstanding beauty and immense historical interest.

The village is located by the side of the river and surrounded by lush green fields and spectacular mountain ranges.  On the opposite side of the river is the ancient city of Kaunos and the Lycean rock tombs, the second largest archaeological site in Turkey.  Only 15% of the city has been excavated and every year more treasures are unearthed.

The area around Dalyan has some of the most diverse wildlife to be found in Turkey, including some species of birds not found anywhere else in the world.  A short distance away is the beautiful Iztuzu (Turtle) Beach, a 5 km stretch of soft golden sand and home to the rare Caretta Caretta turtles.  The beach is ideal for families as it is very safe for swimming and rarely gets crowded.

Dalyan is centrally located for many site seeing trips.

Marmaris is about 1 hours drive to the north, Fethiye and the stunning Olu Deniz lagoon is about 45 minutes drive to the south.

Public transport is very economical and recommended.  Car hire is also readily available and is easy to arrange, either picking up from the airport on your arrival or in Dalyan itself.

Things To Do and Eating Out

Whilst in Dalyan it is highly recommended to take a boat ride on the river to the Sultaniye hot springs and mud baths.  Also recommended is the '12 Islands Tour', which is a day long excursion taking you on a wonderful journey across the Aegean Sea.

Physical sports are aplenty with white water rafting available on the Dalaman River, paragliding in Olu Deniz, canyoning, scuba diving, fishing and snorkelling to name but afew.  The list goes on, you will never tire of things to do ... or you can just relax in the sun!

Dalyan offers a comprehensive selection of restaurants offering a good choice of food and wine at very reasonable prices.  There are also a few bars in the village.  The bars mainly cater for families and couples - it really isn't the sort of place for rowdy behaviour!!
